10 great reasons to Go to the New Forest show

I’ve been going to the new Forest show every year since I was a child. I’ve been exhibiting there as a trader for the past three years and this show never fails to disappoint. So if you’ve never been before, or if you haven’t been for a little while; here in my top 10 reasons why the New Forest show in Brokenhurst in the heart of the new forest is the place to be on the 24th 25th and 26 July.

  1. 1. Animals! There are animals galore at the new Forest show you can visit the animal lines at selected times. There are loads of animals in the show ring and judging rings too. Its fascinating. Your own animals will be welcome too, there are plenty of friendly dogs  perfectly happy at the show.

  2. 2.The food. There is incredible array of food at The New Forest show; a huge food marquee with lots of delicious treats in store. Plenty of places for you to eat through the day from the Rhinefield Restaurant on the members lawn to  grabbing a light bite on one of the side stands. You can have an indulgent afternoon tea or gorgeous New Forest ice cream. There are also some brilliant food demonstrations from some of the country’s top chefs which are great to watch.

  3. 3. Atkinson stunt display. This year the headline act in the main show ring is Atkinson's action horses which promises to be hugely popular. If you’ve  enjoyed watching Ross Poldark gallop his way along the Cornish coast or Queen Victoria gracefully riding side saddle you'll love the Atkinson stunt display.

  1. 4. The heavy horse musical  drive. This tradition of the  show has always been one of my very favourites; the thunder of the horses  and the clank of the brasses as the heavy horses display around the Showground; it’s a spectacle that I simply can’t miss.

  2. 5. Flowers and gardening. The floral exhibits in the flower market we are at times breathtaking; each year I’m always tempted to buy new plants for my garden or at very least to get some tips from the amazing growers there who know all there is to know about successful gardening.

  3. 6. The sports zone. This is brand-new this year and I bet it’s going to be popular. Hampshire cricket, England netball, and Saints foundation are just some of the organisations bringing their interactive  skills and workshops to the show for the first time.

              7. Adam's axemen. I've watched the axe men dozens of times and never get bored! They remain the best known lumberjack display               team in the country and you should make a point of watching them when you visit.

 8. The Sheep Shearing! Funny, educational and exhausting to even watch.

  1. 9. Kitchen workshops. The kitchen workshop provides families with the opportunity to learn new skills, explore tastes and cook up some tasty treats. Some of my friends did this last year and had a whale of a time I can’t recommend it enough.

  2. 10. The traders! There’s plenty of shopping to be had at the new Forest show and you don’t have to do all pile into one cramped shopping marquee. There is an abundance of beautiful handmade Artisan products in the craft tents. Global brands and thriving local businesses sit side by side. Plenty of products for the lover of the countryside.

You’ll find me, with my beautiful animal paintings and prints on Northern Avenue opposite the members lawn.
