I've been trying to find out how much money the average family in the Uk spends on Art. I haven't really found any firm answers, besides the extreme differences in art prices means that average stats wouldn't really have much meaning.
I found out a great statistic - the average UK family spends £19,000 on a new kitchen and £7000 decorating their lounge. Yet these same families finish off their beautiful new rooms with a print they bought from the DIY warehouse at less than £40!
I want to reach out to more people to help them to realise that an oil painting for a few hundred pounds (or maybe more) is absolutely appropriate to spend on a room that cost so much to decorate. It can be their feature wall.
The average family seems to believe that the art world is elitist and not for them. Mmmm how to change a mind set?
We deserve real artwork. Are people afraid of the world of art?
